Start with the start script throws bad substitution error

Description

When you start opennms with the startup script in ${OPENNMS_HOME}/bin/opennms you get bad substitution errors as shown below:

Distribution: CentOS 7 Version: 24.0.0 SNAPSHOT 0.20190215.onms.develop.1636 Java: OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_191-b12)
