These two issues were fixed by validating the filter input and by reworking the notification details page so that it uses newer DAO code to search for notifications in the database. Marking as fixed.
If you search for a notification ID that does't exist or was deleted, then you don't get an empty page but you do get a notification details page with no information on it.
If you search by an empty user in the "Check notices" form, then you get the following exception:

This actually happens even in the actual version (1.12.2 ?) in the opennms.org online demo; so I don't have access to that log, I guess you do

There is probably an exception in the web logs. Can you paste one here if you get the chance? It's not a big deal I guess since this sounds like it is so easy to reproduce.
