Acceptance / Success Criteria

Acceptance

  • Tone of section emphasizes transparency

  • Write-up suggests the opt-out mechanism as a less extreme option that preserves the usage statistics for local consumption and troubleshooting purposes, but acknowledges that some organizations may wish to remove the feature entirely

  • Instructions for uninstalling the usage statistics feature (aka datachoices) includes Karaf shell walkthrough culminating in feature:uninstall datachoices

  • Instructions for blocking the usage statistics feature from loading on future startups includes creation of a file disable_datachoices.boot in the core’s etc/featuresBoot.d/ directory containing the string !datachoices on a line by itself

  • Instructions for uninstalling / blocking this feature include a warning that uninstalling the feature removes the possibility of viewing the collected usage statistics locally. These statistics tend to be extremely helpful when seeking support.

I know we can set the opt-out in the admin menu in the web UI.
What else has to be done to block it constantly? I could imagine feature:uninstall datachoices in the Karaf shell. But would it be installed within the upgrade process?
